چکیده

Still (1897) first described the form of chronic polyarthritis of childhood now associated with his name, and six years later Whitman (1903) described two such cases complicated by amyloidosis, but since then few cases with peost-mortemn findings have been reported. Portis (1938) gave the findings in two fatal cases of Still's disease with amyloidosis, and was able to find five further cases among twelve post-mortem accounts in the literature. Trasoff and others (1944), in a review of the literature, collected 31 cases of amyloidosis in rheumatoid arthritis (nine below 16 years of age), all but five of which are known to have died. They also described a case of a patient suffering from Still's disease with amyloidosis who recovered, and they quote a similar case from Kennedy (1935). Further cases of this combination of diseases are recorded from the Massachusetts General Hospital (1945), by Coss and Boots (1946), and by Pickard (1947). Dahlin (1949) has recently given an account of the pathology of amyloidosis. Amyloid disease complicating rheumatoid arthritis and Still's disease is of secondary type (Reimann and others, 1935) affecting mainly the kidneys, liver and spleen. The case presented below is one of Still's disease of severe nature, with gross pericarditis and complicated by amyloidosis.

Comparison of long term evolution of adult onset and juvenile onset Still's disease, both followed up for more than 10 years.

Still's disease is a clinical entity of unknown origin, which can appear before 15 years of age (juvenile onset Still's disease) or later (adult onset Still's disease). There are few reported data about the long term prognosis of Still's disease and no study compares the long term evolution of adult onset and juvenile onset Still's disease. Eighteen patients fulfilling the American Rheumatism A...

[Clinical studies on 14 cases of adult-onset Still's disease].

We here report fourteen patients diagnosed as adult-onset Still's disease (AOSD) in our hospital. Seven patients were males (mean age at onset was 26.6 years), and seven were females (30.6 years). All of the cases had spiking fever ( > 39 degrees C) and joint symptoms. Hepatomegaly, splenomegaly, and lymphadenopathy were noted in 50% of the patients, respectively. Skin eruption was seen in twel...

Secondary Renal Amyloidosis in Adult Onset Still’s Disease: Case report and Review of the Literature

We report a 25-year-old Korean woman with Adult onset Still's disease (AOSD) presented with renal amyloidosis, which had developed four years after disease onset. We successfully treated her with prednisolone, colchicine and cyclophosphamide. A review of the literature uncovered about 10 cases, most of which were treated by various regimens that resulted in poor outcomes. Renal amyloidosis shou...

Rheumatoid arthritis and amyloid disease.

Introduction The greater part of the literature on the occurrence of amyloidosis in rheumatoid arthritis and in Still's disease comes from the Western Hemisphere. Since the recent publication in this country of such a case by Yeoman and Wilson (1947) the interest of rheumatologists on this side of the Atlantic has been awakened and a watch has been kept for further cases. Over 200 cases of rheu...

Mortality and prognosis related to the amyloidosis of Still's disease.

Amyloidosis in adult rheumatoid arthritis is well documented (Table I). Rosenberg, Baggenstoss, and Hench (1944) reported an incidence of 6-6 per cent. in a study of thirty post mortem cases and Unger, Zuckerbrod, Beck, and Steele (1948a) recorded a similar incidence (6 -9 per cent. in 58 cases), but Teilum and Lindahl (1954) found it in 60-7 per cent. of 28 post mortem cases. Missen and Taylor...
